Ann Kent of the Australian National University reviewed the Reader for The China Journal. Here's the first paragraph:

"One might describe the current state of literature on China and human rights as overdeveloped. Some recent works suffer from overlaps in argument and content. However, one obvious lacuna has been the lack of a comprehensive body of translations of Chinese human rights literature written by Chinese over the last century, a gap that this volume amply fills. It weaves a seamless link between earlier partial translations of essays in specific historical periods and makes accessible to the non-Chinese speaker an extensive body of human rights material. The body of translations, of which only 12 are reprints, is organized both chronologically and thematically. Each section also contains a useful list of suggested further readings."
