ISCWP Joint Panel, 8th International Association for Semiotic Studies

Tentative Schedule for a joint panel at the 8th International Association for Semiotic Studies (July 7-12, 2004 , Lyon, France)

The International Society for Comparative Studies of Chinese and Western Philosophy (ISCWP) tentatively plans to work with the Preparatory Committee for Chinese Association for Semiotic Studies (PCCAPP) to co-sponsor a roundtable panel on the topic “Chinese Semiotics and Comparative Philosophy” at the 8th international conference of the International Association for Semiotic Studies (IASS) (July 7-12, 2004; Lyon, France). The general subject of the 8th IASS Congress is “Interculturality and Globalization”. The theme of the tentatively scheduled roundtable panel is how the methodological strategies of Chinese-Western comparative philosophy and semiotics can contribute to each other’s approach. It is noted that semiotics is a general field involving comparative cultural analysis in terms of language theory, sign theory and theory of meaning and that there are some interesting shared concerned and issues between semiotics and comparative studies of Chinese and Western philosophy.

For further details, interested members might contact with co-coordinators of this tentatively planned roundtable panel, Youzheng Li at youfangli@cs.com or Bo Mou at bmou@email.sjsu.edu.
