When writing comments on one another's papers, here are some guidleines.
- Please do not comment on a student's paper if two people have already done so, or if you have commented on his or her paper during a previous module.
- Always try to be specific; quote the passage to which you're referring, or otherwise make clear what you have in mind (e.g., "3rd sentence of paragraph 2...").
- Always include comments on the following three aspects of each paper:
- Thesis and overall organization
- Each paragraph
- Particular sentences or words that are excellent, unclear, telling, or unnecessary.
- Always strive to include comments about both strengths and weaknesses.
Reacting to Comments you receive
|
Once you have received comments, keep the following in mind.
- You are responsible for the final state of you paper, not the commentors. You need to assess whether their recommendations and advise are appropriate, and decide what changes to make. If you have questions, you can always follow up with them, and if you're confused on how to proceed, you can always talk to me.
- Do not limit your revisions to things that commentors have identified. Use the opportunity to review and edit the entire paper. Commentors may miss crucial issues that will become clear to you as you return to the paper.
